Ice Creams and Smiles

"Mental health is a vital aspect of an individual's well-being, yet it is often overlooked due to academic pressures, workplace stress, and personal challenges entailed by our journey in university. Providing opportunities for relaxation and simple joy can serve as a reminder that caring for one’s mental health is just as important as physical health. As a kind and heartwarming gesture for students during the midterm season and to alleviate the pressure from our own battles, the Bicol University - Movement for the Advancement of Youth-led Advocacy will be initiating a simple initiative entitled “Ice Creams & Smiles: Free Ice Cream for Mental Health Day”. The initiative to distribute free ice cream on Mental Health Day is designed as a lighthearted yet meaningful activity that promotes positivity, connection, and stress relief. Ice cream, as a universally enjoyed treat, symbolizes comfort and serves as an accessible way to uplift moods. Sharing this experience in a communal setting can foster a sense of belonging and reduce feelings of isolation, which are common contributors to mental health struggles. Along with free ice cream is the distribution of information and education campaign (IEC) materials in support of promoting a sound well-being for every BUeno. By offering free ice cream, the program provides a simple but effective intervention: it encourages participants to take a pause from their routine, engage in social interaction, and experience a small moment of joy. Such activities can help open conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and create a more supportive environment within the community or institution. "
